BALCLUTHA i Inquest Adjourned An inquest into the death of Mrt Christina Margaret Hyslop, wife of Mr Archibald Hyslop, farmer, of Greenfield, was opened at the Courthouse, Balclutha, on Monday, before Mr A. E. Russell, district coroner. Constable Boyle conducted the inquiry for the police. _ , . Montague Prentice Stewart Craig, of Awamangu, brother of the deceased, ; said that Mrs Hyslop was aged 43. She 1 had two children, boys of 10 and 17 i years. The deceased's husband had been in the Balclutha Hospital sufferI ing from pneumonia from April B_to April 23, and during that time the deceased and her son, with the assistance of neighbours, had been carrying on the work of the farm. So far .as witness knew she made no complaint about feeling Unwell, although he and other relatives noticed that she was getting thinner. The deceased was very bright and appeared happy to have her husband home. On April £1 he was informed that the deceased was missing from her home. He found on inquiry that she had gone to bed the previous night. Apparently she had been partly dressed when she left the house, as her overcoat was missing. Her shoes were found on the front veranda, but her son's gumboots were missing from the back door. From the day of her disappearance extensive inquiries had been made. On Monday of this week some boys discovered what they thought was a body in the river. When the body was recovered it was found that the deceased was not wearing gum boots, but had her overcoat on with other clothing. He knew of no reason why she should take her life. At this stage Constable Boyle asked for an adjournment, and the inquest was adjourned sine die. • CLINTON Rifle Shooting The Clinton Defence Rifle Club fired its first cup shoot on Saturday afternoon, conditions being two sighters and seven shots over the 300, 500 and 600-yards ranges.
