BASKETBALL
PLAY ON SATURDAY RESULTS OF MATCHES The following accounts have been received of basketball matches played on Saturday:— University I v. Y.W.C.A. The University I-Y.W.C.A. game was exciting and closely contested. University passed well and scored some good goals. Y.W.C.A.’s shooting was not up to standard during the first period, but later improved, to fail again, however, in the second half. The Blue defence played very solidly, and Y.W.C.A. led by 11 goals to 8 when half time was called. The second half opened with attractive play, both sides scoring. Y.W.C.A. was obtaining a fair share of the ball, but again failed to register sufficient goals to maintain its lead. University increased the pace and ran out winners by 23 points to 18. Mr A, P. Rovdhouse controlled the game. High School v. Roslyn Although High School opened the score Roslyn was the more experienced team and quickly drew ahead, the half time score being 23—2. School settled down in the second half and showed promise of later developing into a strong team. The Roslyn forwards combined and scored well, L. Guthrie being especially prominent. The final score was 39—7. Miss M. Sinclair was the referee Kiwi v. Training College II Both Kiwi and Training College II were uncertain for a start, but soon settled down to play good basketball. Kiwi opened the attack, scoring with a clean goal. Play was fairly even throughout the first half, Kiwi, however, holding the advantage and leading by 11—4 at half time. Kiwi more than dominated the play in the second half, and increased its lead. College failed in the goal area, the shooting being inaccurate. The final score was Kiwi 26. Training College II 6 Miss E. Sinclair controlled the game Albany I v. Training College A The Albany team proved too strong for College, although the score is no indication of the game, which was fast throughout. Outstanding in her shooting was Pat Stott, and D. Adams gained territory with her jump. In the centre third J. Leckie provided the only noticeable obstacle to the excellent combination of the Albany centre. College forwards were unlucky with their shooting, and some careless passing was seen. Mrs E, McAughtrle controlled the game, and the final score was:—Albany 31. College 12 Albany H v. University II The game opened with University II taking the ball and quickly netting a goal, but Albany forwards were combining well and followed with several goals in succession. The second half opened with University attacking well, but its forwards lacked the finishing touch, and the final score was 18—6 in Albany’s favour. The game was controlled by Miss E. Sinclair.
