NEW ROAD TO TAUPO
ASSET TO THE TOWNSHIP ANGLERS' APPRECIATION (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Jan. 12. Appreciative reference was made by a party of Wellington anglers who returned from the thermal district today to the new road at present being constructed between the Taupo township and Western Bay. It was claimed, said the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. E. Parry), that the road/would provide access for anglers and visiting sightseers to a part of Taupo which was, during bad weather conditions, unrivalled in the district. The fishing and scenery attractions there had not previously been usable. The road to Western Bay and the one now being made by the Government would, when completed, popularly serve its purpose to fishermen and other visitors to Taupo. The new road from the Taupo township to Western Bay is being constructed by the Public Works Department, Mr Parry said. To date, a mile and a-half of the road had been formed and metalled, and an additional mile would be completed early in February. Motor cars could now proceed readily for two miles and a-quarter from the Taupo township. The remaining part of the work was somewhat heavier than that which had been completed, and, as apparently difficulty was being experienced m obtaining sufficient labour, a few months would elapse before the work was finished. , „ , • “The view of the anglers.’ added Mr Parry, “ that the Western Bay road will be a notable convenience to visitors to Taupo and an asset to the township is shared by the Government.”
