ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUNS

PRODUCTION IN BRITAIN WAR OFFICE STATEMENT (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, Jan. 11. (Received Jan. 12, at 6.30 p.m.) In a statement relating to the supply of anti-aircraft guns the War Office says the 4.5 in weapon is being provided on a scale commensurate with its relationship to defences as a whole. In considering possible expansion of defence, factors which have to be taken into account include simplification of training and maintenance, ease of ammunition supply, and standardisation of stores. These, among other factors, together with considerations of speed and production, have all to be weighed in determining the relative proportions between 3.7 and 4.5-inch guns. The War Office statement intimates that no further orders for the 4.5 type are at present being placed.
