BOOKMAKING CHARGES

THREE MEN FINED ONE DEFENDANT'S THIRD OFFENCE (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL. Jan. 11. In the Magistrate's Court to-day three men were charged with bookmaking. John William Duncan, a tobacconist, was fined £2O; Robert John Timpany, a billiard room proprietor (second offence) £4O; and James Henry Crawford, tobacconist (third offence), £4O. The police gave evidence that all three defendants were carrying on business in a fairly big way.
