LORD STRABOLGI

A BROADCAST ADDRESS NOT CUT OFF THE AIR (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 11. A suggestion that he had been cut off the air during one of his broadcast addresses on Monday night was refuted to-day by Lord Strabolgi and by the directors of the stations concerned. Lord Strabolgi. who landed at Wellington from the Awatea on Monday morning, spoke at 6.45 o'clock that evening from 2ZB, and at 7.40 p.m. from 2YA, the national station. This address was also broadcast from IYA Auckland, and 4YA, Dunedin. Lord Strabolgi. who spoke mainly of international politics, ended somewhat slightly before his time had expired, and there was a slight pause before the station programmes were resurred. This slight pause was evidently interpreted by som? listeners as an interruption to the speech, for yesterday and to-day inquiries were made from various parts of the country whether Lord Strabolgi had been nut off the air. " What happened was simply that my speech lasted a slightly shorter time than had been allotted to me by the broadcasting neople." Lord Strabolgi said to-day. " You can take it from me that nobody will be cut off the air," said Professor James Shelley, Director of Broadcasting. " We do not allow people to go on the air if we think they might have to be cut off." "Lord Strabolgi was certainly not ciu off in his address from this station, said Mr M. S station directs of 2ZB. Lord Strabolgi .vill leave Wellington 0.. Friday for a tour of the northern districts, returning in the middle of next week to visit the South Island. He is to leave Wellington for Sydne bv the Awatea on January 24.
