SOUTH OTAGO
BALCLUTHA Sharks at Kaka Point Sharks have been found to be unusually plentiful at Kaka Point this season. Mr Jack Brown, of Balclutha, succeeded in capturing four ninefooters by means of an ingenious device commonly used at Akaroa for fishing in the bay. A miniature raft fitted with a sail was sent out about 200 yards. Groper hooks well baited were attached to the fine aerial wire lines which connected tha rait with the shore, and the sharks were not long in taking hold. They were safely landed after a struggle and despatched. Smaller sharks were also caught by the same device off the beaen leading to the month of the Koau branch. Nugget Bay fishermen report the presence near the fishing grounds of more sharks than usual. Freezer Busy Fat lambs in good condition are coming in well to the South Otago freezing works at Finegand, whicn were reopened on Wednesday of last week. Up till Saturday 9300 had been put through, and it is expected that the daily intake this week will average about 3000.
