Cricket The second round of the Maniototo Cricket Association's competition was commenced on Saturday. Rain interfered with play in the Patearoa-Ran-furly match, when the first team appeared to be in a winning position with a total of 247 for four wickets on the board, and Ranfurly had lost four wickets for 89. Naseby defaulted to Oturehua, and the other match played. Becks v. Waipiata, was remarkable for its low scoring, Waipiata winning by 35 runs to 30. For Patearoa J. Blakely again played an excellent innings, scoring 84 not out. Details:—

Patearoa (four for 247, declared), drew with Ranfurly (four for 89). For the winning side, J. Blakely (84 not out), F. Greer (56), H. Blakeley (47) and W. McAtamney (28 not out) compiled most of the runs, and in the bowling McAtamney (two for 27) and E. Blakely (two for 28) captured the wickets. For Ranfurly, J. Lynch (35), J. P. Mulholland (22 not out) and A. Murray (16) were the principal scorers., and Lynch (two for 60) and Murray <one for 37) finished with the best bowling figures. Waipiata (35) defeated Becks (30). For Waipiata Priest (19) was the only double figure scorer. In the bowling Priest (three for six), Gibson (three for four) and G. Mathias (two for nil) secured the best averages. For Becks, 20 out of the total of 30 runs were scored by W. Clouston, while the most successful bowlers were W. Kane (six for 18), and E. Mee (two for 14).
