FIGHT FOR LIFE
OLD WOMAN'S CHARGE ATTACK BY MAIDS ALLEGED Giving evidence at Caerphilly Juvenile Court, Glamorgan, a 79-year-old woman declared that she had to fight for her life with two maids of 15 years of age. The two girls were charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder Miss Emma Edmunds, a retired schoolmistress, of Caerphilly, on November 1. Miss Edmunds said she gave one of the. girls notice, and later engaged the other girl. About 9.30 a.m. on November 1 she went into the maid's bedroom, where bedclothes were flung across the room toward her. Her legs were seized by someone underneath the bed, and she was struck on the head several times with a rolling pin. "I fought for my life," she said. "The other girl had a shovel and struck me." Miss Edmunds said she then tried to go to the back door, but one of the girls again carried her back. The two girls, who pleaded not guilty and reserved their defence, were .committed for trial at the next Assizes. They were remanded to a home.
