COUNTESS’S SUIT

AGAINST THE SOVIET SALE OF ART TREASURES LONDON, Jan. 10. (Received Jan. 11 at 1 a.m.) An action by Countess Stroganoff, a member of an ancient Russian family, against the Soviet Government for the recovery of £200,000 has been begun in Berlin. The Countess claims that this was the sum paid by the buyers when the Soviet illegally sold part of the celebrated Stroganoff art collection, including Rembrandts, Van Dycks and other Old Masters in Berlin, in 1931. The Russian commercial attache in Berlin is defending the action.
