THE VINCENT MEETING

A POPULAR FIXTURE The Vincent Jockey Club will hold its annual race meeting on Friday and Saturday of this week. The great growth of the meeting in popularity is one of the most remarkable features of racing in Otago. In bygone years the “ Goldfields Circuit" attracted horses from near and far. and meetings were held all over Central Otago. The passing of years and a change of circumstances were responsible for several meetings dropping off the calendar. A two-day fixture at Queenstown and a two-day fixture at Naseby were dropped many years ago. and others of minor importance also vanished from the calendar, and racing fell almost to vanishing point in the Central Cromwell and Vincent, however battled on, and the Vincent JockeyClub’s meeting stand? out as a sporting oasis on a desert calendar so far as that part of the world is concerned There is no doubt that the sporting nature of the programme, which is richly endowed with trophies, has very materially assisted in building up the popularity. The club has appreciated the growing patronage by improving the accommodation, and this year another forward step has been made in that direction.
