SMALLPOX EPIDEMIC

RAGING IN SHANGHAI OVER THREE HUNDRED DEATHS SHANGHAI, Dec. 23. A smallpox epidemic, the worst in 74 years, is raging. The deaths during December were 331 Chinese and 23 foreigners, including an artificer on the cruiser Suffolk, on which there are eight cases. At present there are 1100 cases in the settlement.
