PICKPOCKETS ACTIVE
THREE CASES IN AUCKLAND DIFFICULTY OF DETECTION (Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, Dec. 26. Pickpockets are again active in Auckland after a brief lull during which no cases were reported to the police. There were several such offences during the long week-end, and, in one instance, a substantial sum is involved. The money, which was drawn from a bank only a short time earlier, was stolen from a man in a busy city shop on Saturday morning. The money was intended to pay for stores ordered for a
holiday cruise, and. on the way to colled his order, the man called at another store to make a purchase. Ho believes that the money, which was in his wallet, was stolen while he was in the lift, which was crowded. An additional difficulty was the fact that, by the time the man had discovered his loss, the banks were closed. The findins of the empty wallet has not been reported. , , ~ . . . A schoolboy, who had 15s in his purse, was the victim of a pickpocket on Friday. The theft was committed in Queen street while the boy was walking along a crowded pavement. On his way to a store to make a purchase the purse was taken from his jacket pocket. The loss of another wallet, also containing money, has been reported to the police. The victim is employed in a store, and it is thought that his pocket was picked while he was on duty.
