OBITUARY

MR GEORGE McINTOSH The death of Mr George Mcintosh occurred recently in the Dunstan Hospital after a brief illness. Born at Lily Bank, Becks, 48 years ago, the deceased was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Mcintosh, of Alexandra, and helped in developing his father's farm at Disputed Spur, Moutere. About nine years ago, when his parents retired to Alexandra, he took over the property which he successfully farmed until his illness. He married Miss Jean Alexander, of Clarksville, Milton, and is survived by his wife and two young daughters. Of a genial disposition, Mr Mcintosh was respected by everyone who knew him, and esteemed as a fine type of settler. The remains were interred in the Drybread Cemetery, the service being conducted by the Rev. Mr Larsen, of Lauder Parish. SENIOR SERGEANT E. FINCH The death occurred suddenly at the v. hangarei Hospital on Saturday night of Senior Sergeant Edward Finch, of the Whangarei Police Force, at the age of 58 years. Senior Sergeant Fmch was born at Milton, Otago, his father being.a farmer in that district. Before joining the Police Force at Dunedin in 1909, he was farming for a time and also served in. the Railways Department for a period. He was transferred to Wanganui, where he was in charge of the district office. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1922, and was appointed to. the New-: market station. In 1924 he was appointed senior sergeant at Whangarei, a position which he held until his death. MR ALEXANDER McLEAN Mr Alexander McLean, who died at his residence at Rosebank, Balclutha, on Saturday, at the age of 67, was born at Ahuriri Flat, near Glenomaru. For 40 years he worked on the farm witn his father, and latterly for his late brother, Mr John McLean. Twenty years ago he was married to Miss Jessie Watson Fraser, of Kaitangata, and went to live at Balclutha, where he had since resided. For some years Mr McLean worked for Messrs Robert and John Lochhead, Inch Clutha and Balclutha, and was well known not only for his fine character, but as a skilled farmer and general agriculturist. Besides a widow, he leaves one son (Wilfred), of Balclutha, and there are three sisters of the deceased, namely, Mrs Caley (Purekireki), Mrs Donald (Christchurch), and Miss McLean (Timaru). The interment took place at Balclutha Cemetery yesterday. MR J. E. MAKGILL (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 28. The death occurred suddenly tonight of Mr John Edward Makgill, aged 64, a prominent Auckland citizen. Mr Makgill was in the city today on business, and appeared to be in excellent health. Mr Makgill was born in Edinburgh in,- 1874, and was the son of Sir John and Lady Makgill. He was onh' seven years of age when he arrived in New Zealand. He began farming on his father's property in the Waiuku district, and subsequently he and his brother took over the property. Mr Makgill later bought sheep and cattle properties in the Matamata district. He was a former vice-presi-dent of the Auckland provincial branch of the Farmers' Union. He was one of the original directors of the Farmers' Trading Company, Ltd. He was a director of the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company, Ltd., for a long period, and for a time filled the position of chairman. Mr Makgill is survived by his wife, and by four sons and four daughters. MR ROBERT P. NEALE (Sfecial to Daily Times) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 28. The death has occurred at Gore of Mr Robert P. Neale. He was born at Port Chalmers 63 years ago, and was a son of Mr and Mrs Robert Parfitt Neale. He was educated at the Port Chalmers Primary School and the District High School. When he was about 18 years of age he secured farm work at Waikaka and the Waikaka Valley He later became a dredgeman, and for a long period he worked on various dredges in the Waikaka and Waikaka Valley areas. For a short time Mr Neale turned his atteti Hon to farming, and he and the late Mr Thomas Falconer owned a property at Otamete Gorge. In 1912 Mr Neale purchased Trembath's stables, and he conducted the first motor taxi in Gore In 1917 he married Miss Margaret C Johnston, of Kaihiku About 20 years ago he began business at Gore as a land, estate and commission agent and for many years he was in partnership with the late Mr M McLeod. Mr Neale was chiefly interested In his business, and gardening was his hobby. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his widow.
