KAITANGATA DEFENCE CLUB

The Kaitangata Defence Rifle Club fired the first stage of the Lee Cup (second competition) on Saturday, the conditions being seven counting shots and two optional sighters each at 000 and 600 yards. Weather conditions were not' favourable for good shooting, there being a strong, gusty wind blowing from the right rear. The highest scores at 500 yards were ob-

tained by R. Arbuthnott (34) and C. Falconer (33), and at 600 yards J. Dick, R. S. Greene and R. Kitto scored 30 each. ' The following were the highest scores:—

WEST TAIERI CLUB The West Taieri Defence Rifle Club fired its second shoot for the championship cup on Saturday, the ranges being 500 and 600 yards. Eleven members were present. The shooters had to contend with a strong, choppy wind, varying in direction. Bright and dull changes in the light troubled some of the less experienced riflemen Even though the conditions were against high scoring, some good scores were recorded. J. Shaw and G. Wyllie, with 49 each, headed the list at 500 yards, closely followed by D. Ashley with 48. At 600 yards D. Ashley and W. Henderson, both with 49. were top scorers, W. Brookes with 48 being next. D. Ashley retains the button for the highest score off the rifle with 97, while H. Webb won the handicap badge with a possible. The following were the scores:—
