NET CURTAINS
The washing and drying of net curtains is one of the most difficult branches of home laundering. The curtains should first be allowed to soak for several hours in a warm, soapy lather to which a little powdered borax has been added Allow a teaspoonful of borax to each quart of water Squeeze with the hands in this solution, then remove without wringing and knead and squeeze in a fresh soapy solution. Rinse first in tepid, then in cold water, allowing the curtains to soak in the latter for an hour or so.
Care is necessary while drying the curtains. One way is to shake them in the open air. then hang while still wet, placing a heavy pole or stick through the hems at the bottom. While drying, pull them into shape from time to time. Another way is to iron the curtains while still wet, then pass them through thin hot water starch and shake thoroughly. Pull out with the fingers, roll down, and leave for several hours, after which press on the wrong side with a moderate iron.
An excellent furniture polish can be made by mixing two parts of castor oil with one part of vinegar. Rub over the furniture with a soft rag dipped in the lotion, and polish with a duster
