CANTERBURY MARKETS FIRMING IN POTATOES (Pm United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 4. The only change in the Canterbury Eain and produce markets since the >t report has been the firming in potatoes. Merchants' advices from Auckland say the demand is not yet greatly affected by the new season's supplies from Pukekohe. and that potatoes from the south are likely to be required for another fortnight yet. The demand is for Suttons. which are very difficult to get, and the price to farmers for them has advanced to £2 10s a ton. Dakotas are plentiful and hard to sell, and the quotation for them is unchanged at £1 10s a ton. Activity in the seeds market has been restricted. A certain amount of export business has been done in grasses from Southland, and there has been some demand for white clover, but the prices ere unchanged.

MINING NEWS NEMONA DREDGE RETURN (Per United Press Association) GREYMOUTH, Nov. 4. The return of the Nemona Dredge was 650 z for 225 hours. 21,700yds being treated.

GOLD RETURNS~FOR OCTOBER The secretary of the Alexander Mines, Ltd., has submitted the following report for last month:- v Battery Department.—A total of fm tons of ore was crushed for 920 z 6dwt of melted gold. 10ft Cyanide Department.—A total of 188 tons of sand was treated for 270 z 16dwt of bullion. The total estimated value W ln addition. 65 tons of concentrates were saved, valued at £2321. In estimating the above values gold has been taken at 140 s per fine ounce.
