BURNSIDE STOCK SALE

PRIME CATTLE PRICES RISE FAT CATTLE A yarding of 200 fat cattle was forward at Burnside yesterday. There were five trucks of heavy primes, and the balance were medium cattle of all grades with the usual number of cows and heifers. Extra prime cows and heifers could be said to be in shorter supply than usual. The market opened brightly, prices for prime cattle showing an appreciation of up to 20s a head on last week's average and, for well bred quality cattle, this advance held throughout. Taken all over, the sale was erratic for anything other than prime quality. Light and medium cattle were easier and difficult at times to sell. Values were.—Extra prime heavy bullocks to £24 12s 6d, prime heavy £l9 7s 6d to £2l 17s 6d, primes £l7 7s 6d to £l9 2s 6d, light and medium £l3 2s 6d to £ls 17s 6d, extra prime heavy cows and heifers to £ls 17s 6d, prime heavy £l3 7s 6d to £l4 2s 6d, medium £lO 12s 6d to £l2 17s 6d, light and unfinished £4 17s 6d to £lO 7s 6d. FAT SHEEP There was a yarding of 1729 fat sheep. The entry consisted of about 50 per cent, wethers, and more than half of the total entry was shorn. There were a few pens of extra prime wethers forward and also a few pens of heavy prime ewes. These sold at prices much on a level with last sale's rates, but all medium sheep met with a decidedly erratic sale at prices showing a decline of up to 2s per head. Preference for shorn sheep was shown throughout the sale. Outside buyers were in evidence, and no doubt helped the market, the numbers of which were more than needed for the week's requirements. Values were:—Extra prime heavy wethers (wool), to 41s; prime heavies (wool), 31s to 34s 3d; shorn, 26s to 27s 9d; medium, wool, 26s to 295, shorn 23s 6d to 25s 6d; light and unfinished, shorn, 17s to 21s; extra prime heavy ewes, wool, to 29s 3d, prime, shorn, to 235; medium to light, wool, 14s 6d to 245, shorn 14s to 235.
