PHYSICAL EDUCATION

MR J. V. HANNA'S SCHOOL ATTRACTIVE ANNUAL FESTIVAL ' His Majesty's Theatre was filled to capacity last night, for the -eleventh annual festival of Mr J. V. Hanna's School of Physical. Education. . The audience was very enthusiastic over the long and attractively. varied programme presented by the various physical culture, gymnastic, dancing, and suburban classes of. the .school, and each item was rewarded with prolonged applause. The different classes showed the varied activities of the school, and its aim of improving the physical standard of members seems to have been achieved again this year. Mr Hanna must have had every reason to be gratified with the success of the entertainment and of his efforts during the year. ' .'-.. ■ ■■, ;,..■ ti ■.. The various items on the programme were presented to the accompaniment pf an efficient .orchestra, led by- the school's- official -pianist. Miss N'beljhe Marshall. ■ Special lighting effects and attractive uniforms added to the success of the numbers, most of which concluded with a pyramid or tableau. These were carried out with'commendable speed, and proved effeotive. conclusions to the excellent' exercises and gymnastic numbers, There was a wide margin between the ages of the youngest and the oldest performers, and the manner in which the small children went through their numbers showed that thev enjoyed to the full everything they were called upon to do. Some of the advanced numbers; were admirably carried out the gymnastic work by the men's class and the secondary schoolboys being particularly good- "Keep fit'- and rhythmic exercises and club swinging were other numbers that uppealed to the audience, and these, too.- were very effectively carried out. Enjoyable Solo dances and vocal solos Introduced variety into the second portion of the programme, and these were well received. ' ■''.';■..■
