MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago A. and P. Society was held on Thursday afternoon and was attended by Messrs J. Hellyer (president), in the chair, J. Mitchell, J. A. Fowler, R. A. S. Cantrell, H. M. Driver, B. S. Irwin, D. M. Reid, J. B. Blair, A. C. Begg, D. Ireland. J. Young, T. D. Dalziel, R. Gawn, C. M. Bruce. J. N. Murdoch, J. Allison, W. S. Thomson, S. Bowman, W. Lee and S. P. Cameron. The chairman referred to the death of Mr R. H. Edie, who was a member of the committee for a number of years as representative of the Clutha and Tuapeka District. Members stood in silence to pay tribute to one who had worked in the interests of the society. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS The Finance Committee met prior to the General Committee meeting and recommended payment of accounts amounting to £309 5s 3d. The bank balance was £969 13s 3d in debit, with unpresented cheques amounting to £8 | 12s 6d.—Noted. I The rents fixed for the recently purchased buildings were approved, and the public risk insurance for the Summer Show considered. I The statement of receipts and expenditure for the horse parade showed a loss of £ 16 19s, which was accounted I for by the poor attendance. The veterinary surgeon’s report on I the examination of the horses entered j at the parade was received, and the ' secretary instructed to write a letter of appreciation to Mr C. V. Dayus and his staff for their continued assistance I in this matter. A letter from the Otago Harbour Board’s solicitors in reference to the I Crawford street lease was received, and it was decided to ask Mr E. C. Reynolds to act as valuer for the j society. Mr W. Lee. of Goodwood, was apl pointed to judge the Red Polled cattle i section at the Summer Show, j Some discussion took place on the I competition for the Young Farmers | Clubs, and it was left to the secretary : and Mr Bruce to obtain sheep for the i shearing competition. • i Mr A. Reid’s offer to give a demonstration on Aberdeen Angus cattle at , the Summer Show was received with i thanks, and it was decided that if possible the demonstration should be I given. A letter was received from the Royal Agricultural Society asking for an expression of opinion as to the preva--1 lence and importance of various animal diseases, and it was decided to refer the matter to the society s r veterinary surgeon, j The secretary reported on the ewe ' hogget competition in the Moa Plat, i Tapanui and Kelso district, held on i October 10, which was judged by Mr I W. A. Yardley, and on the Clutha, ! Clinton and Owaka competition, held ; on Tuesday tmd Wednesday last, and i judged by Mr A. H. Moffat. This I competition was the best supported of ' all the districts, and. with 14 entries m the dual purpose class, was most ; interesting. The placings in this com--1 petition were as follows:
