RICCARTON RECOUNT DELAYED DUPLICATE VOTING ALLEGED THREE CASES REFERRED TO POLICE (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 21. About 20 cases of apparent duplicated voting are holding up the recount in the Riccarton election contest, in which Mr T. H. Langford (Labour) has a lead of 38 votes over the former member, Mr H. S S Kyle (National) The returning officer said this morning that he could not start his final count until each case v.f apparent duplication had been cleared up. He added that three cases had been pul in the hands of the police. As for the 800 absentee and postal votes, the returning officer said no indication could be trained as to which candidate secured the bulk of them, as the law stipulated that before these outstanding papers could be tallied up the recount of the votes already announced had to be completed.

DUNEDIN CENTRAL

THE FINAL FIGURES MR NEILSON’S MAJORITY INCREASED As a result of the counting of the postal, absentee and seamen’s votes, which was completed yesterday afternoon, Mr P. Neilson’s majority in the Dunedin Central electorate has been increased to 3814 votes. His majority on the night of the election was 3654 The final figures were: Mr P. Neilson (Labour), 9094 votes: Mr W. J. Mead* 3 (National). 5280 votes. On election night the figures were 8597 and 4943 respectively. In the postal, absentee and seamens votes, Mr Neilson gained a fairly large majority in each case. He obtained 171 postal votes to Mr Meade’s 129, 10 being informal, and in the absentee votes he secured 314 to his opponents 203. 27 being informal. All the 16 seamen’s votes went to Mr Neilson. The total number of votes cast was 14,374, of which only 108 were informal.

Ormond (National) .. 4159 Majority for Barnard, 3937. THE OTAKI ELECTORATE MR L. G. LOWRY’S MAJORITY INCREASED (Per United Association) OTAKI, Oct. 21. The final figures for the election give Mr L. G. Lowry (Labour) a majority of 1367. Postal votes resulted: Lowry 125. G. A. Monk (National) 114; absentee —Lowry 357, Monk 197. The Labour majority at the first count was 992.
