Oamaru Trots The Oamaru Trotting Club has adopted the win and place totalisator system for its Labour Day meeting. Philarlo Phllario, who won at Methven in 4min 27 l-ssec from a 4min 37sec mark, is now assessed at 2min 13sec, 2min 47sec, and 4min 33sec. Absentees , Indianapolis, Village Guy, and Gamble are the only three to drop out of the Trotting Cup at the first payment. All Bingen All Bingen, who won twice last season, was got by Worthy Bingen, a son of Nelson Bingen, from Rose Bingen, by Nelson Bingen. At Invercargill The Invercargill Trotting Club’s next meeting, will be held on the track formerly used by the Southland Racing Club before its enlargement. Mr H. F. Nicoll is reported to be making a good recovery from injuries received in a recent motor accident. Mr Nicoll is in the Lewisham Hospital in Christchurch.
Forbury Park The top dressing of the Forbury Park track has been completed. Last season about the width of the track was topdressed and provided going which won the appreciation of those handling horses. Indianapolis
Although Indianapolis was allowed'' to drop out of the Trotting Cup he has been nominated for the Ollivier Handicap, of £IOOO, 4min 27sec class, for which 34 nominations were received. Indianapolis has also been nominated for the Free-For-All Volomite
Volomite. the sire of three yearlings recently purchased by Mr J R. McKenzie in America, is the leading sire at the famous Kentucky stud of Walnut Hall Farm. Since retired to the stud Volomitc’s book has been filled early at a fee of 200 guineas Volomite, who had a mile record ot 2min 3,;sec as a three-year-old, is a son of Peter Volo from Cita Frisco, by San Francisco Other stallions in service at the Walnut Hall Farm are: Protector (Imin 59 J sec, by Peter Volo): Guy Abbey (2min 6]sec. by Guy Axworthy); Scotland .'lmin 59.1 sec, by Peter Scott); Guy Day (2min 41sec, by Guy Axworthy) and Lord Jim (2min by Guy Axworthy). The four-year-old filly Cavatina created a favourable impression when she finished third in the Hutt Park Trial Handicap She was got by Arion Axworthy from Dilworth (4min 19 4-sscc) by Travis Axworthy—Muriel Dillon by Harold Dillon—Muriel Madison. A North Island writer said; “ In Cavatina L. F. Berkett has material for the development of a first-class pacer. She was nowhere near ready at Hutt Park and there was no small amount of merit in her third placing.”
