“ OPPRESSION ” BY CZECHS HERR HESS’S DENUNCIATION BERLIN. Aug. 28. At Stuttgart Herr Hess denounced the “oppression” of the Sudeten Germans, declaring that Germany was solidly behind them. LORD RUNCIMAN’S EFFORTS PRAGUE, Aug. 29. (Received Aug. 30, at 0.45 a.m.) It is reliably stated that Lord Runciman tried to induce Herr Henlein to water down the eight points in his Carlsbad speech in view of the growing gravity of the international situation. OPINION IN GERMANY THE SITUATION GRAVE BERLIN, Aug. 29. (Received Aug. 30, at 1.30 a.m.) Well-informed circles consider the situation is particularly grave because the inspired German press has. worked up the public to expect that something positive would ha done. Sir John Simon’s speech has shaken the belief that Britain is a passive spectator.
