AUSTRALIAN STRIKE

EXTENSION OF DISPUTE FEARED ADVICE TO GOVERNMENT CANBERRA, Aug. 14. (Received Aug. 14, at 8 p.m.) An extension of the engineers’ strike at the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation’s works at Melbourne is forecast by the leader of the Opposition (Mr J. Curtin) unless the Prime Minister (Mr o A. Lyons) call the parties together for conciliation, .

“ I tell the Government regarding industrial problems that it would be well advised to consult the unions,” Mr Curtain said. “ Conciliation is far the wiser policy than the rule of the mailed fist.”

The engineers at Footscray and Maribyrnong decided to cease work whenever the union executive ordered if no satisfactory settlement of the dispute at the aircraft factory is reached.
