LYING AT DEATH’S DOOR PENNILESS AND ALONE MONTREAL, July 21. (Received July 22, at 1.35 a.m.) Penniless and alone Arthur Ellis, whose real name is Arthur Alexander English Canada’s hangman, who, in the course of 25 years has executed more than 500 persons, lies near death in the local hospital. Ellis, who is 73, is the son of an English officer of the King’s Guard He learned the grim trade from his brother, John Ellis, the famous British hangman.
