Ministerial The Prime Minister (Mr M;. J. Savage) arrived in Auckland on Saturday (says a Press Association message) for the purpose of performing the official opening of the school erected in Orakei garden suburb, where about 160 State houses are now in occupation. He left again for Wellington by last night’s limited express. Mr Savage fulfilled a number of other engagements on Saturday, and altogether spent a very busy day. Mr G. Blackwood, of Leyland Motors, left for Wellington by the second express on Saturday. Mr J. W. Munro, M.P., and Mr Peter Neilson, M.P., returned from Wellington on Saturday afternoon, arriving by the first express from the north. Mr V. S. Jacobs was a passenger by the afternoon express from the north on Saturday. Mr F. Waite, M.L.C., was a througn passenger for Balclutha by the first express from the north on Saturday afternoon.

Messrs A. C. Hanlon, B. S. frwin, J. M. Samson (Dunedin), W. Grieve (Invercargill), and Messrs F. Young, R. S. Green, and H. A. Price (Gore) were passengers by the through express for the north on Saturday morning, bound for the annual meeting of the Racing and Trotting Conferences in Wellington.

Mr T. K. S. Sidey returned to Dunedin by the afternoon express on Saturday after a visit to Wellington.

Mr A. N. Smith left by the mid-day express for the north on Saturday, en route to Australia. Mr L. C. Manning left by the through express for -the north on Saturday, en route to Auckland. Mr J. T. Martin, of the head office of Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co„ Wellington, left on his return north by the Union Airways liner on Saturday morning.

Principal A. L. Haddon and Mr W. T. Wilson were passengers by the through express for the north on Saturday, on their way to attend the jubiless celebrations of the Ashburton Church of Christ.

A cable message from London states that Major Harold Temperley will succeed Field-marshal Sir William Birdwood as Master of Peterhouse, Cambridge. Major Temperley is at present professor of modern history at Peterhouse.

Mr J. J. Marlow was unanimously elected patron of the St. Kilda Bowling Club at the annual meeting on Saturday night. Mr Marlow was accorded musical honours. Reference to the deaths of Messrs M. J. Hade. W, Smith and D. McCorkindale was made at the annual meeting of the St. Kilda Bowling Club on Saturday night, and a motion of sympathy was carried in silence. The Union Airways liner Korirnako left the Taieri airport at 8.15 a.m. on Saturday for Christchurch. Blenheim, and Palmerston North with Mr J. F. Martin for Christchurch, Mr A. R. H. Stevenson for Wellington, and Mrs E. H. Compton and infant and Mr R. P. Edser for Palmerston North. The Kotuku arrived from the north at 2.45 p.m. with Miss A. McKay from Auckland. Mrs H. J. Huthnance and infant and Miss M. Huthnance from Nelson, and Mrs H T. Tidswell from Christchurch. The Kotuku left the Taieri again at 8.15 a.m. yesterday with Messrs J. G. Busch and G. Harvey for Palmerston North.

Members of the staff of the Hillside Railway Workshops assembled on Friday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr C. Quaid, who will leave to-morrow for Wellington, where he will join the All Black team for Australia. On behalf of his fellow employees, the manager, Mr J. M. Slowley, presented Mr Quaid with a wallet and said it was an honour that a member of the Hillside Shop should be chosen to represent the Dominion on the field of sport. If Mr Quaid played the game as enthusiastically as he gave his energies to his work he would be one of the successes of the tour. Other members of the staff also spoke and Mr Quaid briefly replied. On Wednesday evening last Mr Quaid was the guest at a social tendered in his honour by the Southern Football Club and was presented by his clubmates with a wristlet watch.
