GRANTS TO THE LABOUR PARTY
ro 1(11- RDITOII
Sir.—l notice an article in your paper regarding the granting of money from the funds of Public Service Unions to the Labour Party. As a prominent member of the Amalgamated Railway Union. I can tell you that our grant was carried by three to one. I cannot for the life of me see what grounds for complaint you have, because for years you have been advising the unions to do things lawfully, yet when we do so you at once put forward reasons why we should not do these things. And I may state that, no matter what the political opinions of the public servants are, it will not make the least difference in the carrying out of their duties. I consider it is a grave reflection on the honesty of a fine body' of men to say or impute that their political opinions would make them break their trust.— I am, etc.. E. C. F. June 15.
[We did not question the legality of the actions of the public service organisations which have tied themselves politically to the Socialist Party.—Ed. O.D.T.]
