INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM

VICTORY OVER MANAWATU MARGIN OF FOUR GOALS (Pee United Press Association) PALMERSTON h., June 15. Before a crowd of 12,000 the Indian hockey team defeated Manawatu by 4 goals to nil. The game was very even in the first spell, which closed in favour of the visitors, who scored near the call of half time. Manawatu played the Indians at their own game, showing clever stick work. In the second spell, however, the visitors gave a ma-chine-like display, adding two goals shortly after the recommencement, and a fourth a quarter of an hour later.

The Manawatu forwards were not able to exploit their advantages to the same extent as the Indians, and a number of shots at goal went wide. The Indians were frequently penalised for obstruction, but their positional play and control of the ball were remarkable The crowd was thrilled at the speed of the game in the first spell, but the play was more one-sided in the second half The ground was heavy, and Manawatu seemed to be more troubled on that account than the Indians, who also missed goals. Hart, the Manawatu goalie, played a magnificent game, and was one of, the best players on the field.
