IMPORTERS AND SHIPPERS
OTAGO ASSOCIATION MEETING OF EXECUTIVE At the monthly meeting of the executive of the Otago Importers and Shippers’ Association, the president (Mr H. L Smith) occupied the chair. An invitation was received from the Otago Expansion League for two delegates to attend a meeting on June 23.—1 t was decided to accept the invitation, and Messrs J. C. H. Somerville and W. J. Winefield were appointed to attend. The acting secretary reported that since last meeting he had inspected a case which had been pillaged, a claim for which had been challenged by the Railways, but had eventually been recognised by the shipping company concerned Another claim, which had been the subject of considerable correspondence, had been referred to the shipping company s head office at its request, and it was hoped that a satisfactory adjustment would eventuate. The matter of sub-orders on the Otago Harbour Board was mentioned, and the acting secretary said that so far no complaint had been lodged with him, and the same applied to the revised storage regulations In reply to a question, the president said that the association would assist any member in a dispute with overseas suppliers This was one of the services rendered by the association, although this fact did not appear to be generally known At the close of the meeting, the acting secretary read a communication from the association’s secretary, Mr E. Wood, sent from Montreal on the eve of his departure for Liverpool. He expected to arrive in London on May 17.
