“THE VAGABOND KING”
MUSICAL COMEDY SEASON The musical comedy proauction, " The Vagabond King,” will commence a season at His Majesty’s Theatre tomorrow with a gala matinee. Its tuneful melodies are a feature of the production, and “Only a Rose. ' Love For Sale.” "Drinking,” and the barmonised work in the immortal Te Deum” are only some of the numbers that will be presented. With a chorus of 75 voices and a professional orchestra of 18 players under the baton of Mr James Clark (the musical director), Rudolf Friml’s compositions should be heard at then best. Heading the cast are Reta Stone and James Macfarlane This will be Miss Stones first appearance on a Dunedin stage, and as Katherine, her fine soprano voice should be heard to advantage. Mr Macfarlane appears as Francois Villon, and included in the supporting cast are Freda Elmes. Tui > Northey, and Harriet Hamer. Mr Richard White has the role of the eccentric Loqis, while Stan Lawson as Tabarie and Richard Murphy as Oliver provide most of the comedv Others who take leading parts are S. G. Lock, E. W. Griffiths. Jack Johnson. Mark Gaston, John Gordon Donald Munro and E Ombler. Miss Powell has succeeded in cqmbmino the novel with the artistic in the training of the ballet, and the entire production is In the hands of Mr Stan Lawson. After its opening performance to-morrow, “The Vagabond King ” will be continued for one week, and matinees will be presented on Monday and the following Saturday
