FURTHER TWO HUNDRED DEATHS BRITISH MISSIONARIES’ APPEAL NATIONS URGED TO PROTEST (United Press Association). (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) CANTON, May 30. It is officially stated that 200 people were killed and 300 wounded in to-day’s raid. British missionaries in Canton have sent a cablegram appealing to the Archbishop of Canterbury, asking him to draw public attention to the bombing of Chinese civilians and to urge the British Government to protest to Japan. American residents sent a similar cablegram to the American Secretary of State (Mr Cordell Hull). CHINESE SUCCESSES RECAPTURE OF STRATEGIC POINT HANKOW, May 30. Despite the stubborn resistance of General Dochara’s depleted divisions after losing 4000 troops killed since crossing into East Honan, the Chinese re-entered Sanyitsai, a strategic point northeast of Langfeng. Heavy fighting continues, as the result of which the Chinese removed the threat to Tungkwan, besides recapturing Yungchi and Yumenkow. FLIGHT OVER ISLAND REPORT OF CHINESE ACTIVITIES TOKIO, May 30. Two war planes, believed to be Chinese, flew over the Japanese island of Kyushu. Kyushu is the most southerly of the large islands forming the Japanese Archipelago. It lies south-west of the Inland Sea. The capital is Nagasaki. CONCERN IN TOKIO RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION IN CHINA TOKIO, May 30. A stir has been caused by the news that a group of French banks is backing the construction of a railway within six months to connect Haipong, in Indo-China, with Nanning, at Kwangsi, which, next to Hongkong, is China’s best route for importing munitions from Europe.
JAPANESE MINISTRY FURTHER APPOINTMENT ' TOKIO, May 30. Lieutenant-general Tojo has been appointed Vice-Minister of War. A previous message stated that the War Office had recalled Lieuten-nnt-general Kideki Tojo, Chief of Staff in Kwantung.
