AID TO VICTORIES

FRENCHMAN’S DEVICE USE OF LOUD-SPEAKERS PARIS, May 24. A device that may help to win victories in a future war by misleading an enemy is being made by an ingenious Frenchman. He is experimenting with the construction of loud-speakers capable of reproducing most of the sounds in battle, including the sounds of shell fire and of machine guns. The loud-speakers would be placed in the field to deceive and alarm the enemy. Troops might thus be held up by nothing more lethal than gramophone records A lew carefully-placed machine guns, it is remarked, would add to the atmosphere of uncertainty and prevent undue contempt for mere noise.
