CLAIM FOR DAMAGES

SEQUEL TO FIRE ACTION BY FLAX COMPANY (Pin United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 30. A verdict for the plaintiff for £750 was returned by the jury in the Supreme Court to-day in the case in which the Wellington Flax Company sued Sir Kenneth Douglas for £SOOO damages. The action arose from a fire which destroyed a large area of flax at Mangaroa in November, the plaintiffs alleging that Sir Kenneth, who owns the adjoining property, was responsible for the fire. The defence was a complete denial. The hearing began on Tuesday last. The jury was out for three hours and a-quarter. The defendant was granted leave to move within 14 days for a new trial.
