AN INGENIOUS IDEA
SOWING SILTED FIELDS FARMERS DON SKIS (Per United Press Association) HASTINGS, May 27. ' Two enterprising Hawke's Bay farmers, the Hill brothers, of Fernhill, have devised a new technique in the resowing of silted areas on their farm. One hundred and ten acres of their 132-acre property has been covered by sandy silt, and, when resowing the area by hand was recommenced a few weeks ago, they discovered that their feet sank in so much that they fixed boards to their feet to overcome the difficulty. Both possessed an old pair of skis, however, and, on experiment, it was discovered that this method was much more satisfactory, so the sowing of the paddocks was completed, probably for the first time in the history of New Zealand, on skis.
