BURST WATER MAIN

ENORMOUS FORCE OF WATER CARS THROWN INTO AIR (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 14. No sooner had a new 12-foot length been put into the Hutt road water main on Friday after a burst, and the road cleaned up again, than another burst occurred in the next length on the city side. A small car was passing over the break when it occurred. The surface of the road rose in a v-shaped bulge and threw the car some feet into the air. A bigger car was following, and the jet was then so great that this car also was lifted. Later, when the excavation for repairs was being made, another small car, ignoring flares placed for warning, actually finished up in the hole. The main has been down for 50 years. It has been giving trouble, and will continue to do so until rewould be on again to-night. The Dursting of the old main is not serious from a water supply aspect, two other mains being intact, and Karon Reservoir carrying a plentiful supply- .
