HOTELKEEPERS ALARMED RECENT POLICE ACTION SYDNEY, May 13. (Received May 13, at 11 p.m.) Consternation prevailed among hotelkeepers to-day as the result of police action in declaring three hotels common gaming houses. The Licensed Victuallers’ Association has advised licensees completely to eliminate radios from hotel bars. PUBLIC SCHOOL ROWERS HEAD OF RIVER CONTEST MELBOURNE, May 13. (Received May 13, at 11 p.m.) The Head of the River Boat Race resulted as follows: Melbourne Grammar School .. 1 Geelong Grammar School .. 2 Scotch College 3 Won by three-quarters of a length, with three lengths between second and third. AGRICULTURAL CONFERENCE DISCUSSION ON PIG INDUSTRY CANBERRA, May 13. (Received May 14, at 0.15 a.m.) So impressed were the delegates to the Agricultural Council conference with the outline by Mr A. H. Cockayne of New Zealand’s development of the pig industry by means of pig clubs that the conference arranged with the Australian Department of Commerce to obtain full particulars from New Zealand. This information will be circulated to producers in all Australian States. In view of the legislation enacted in Australia and New Zealand for the abolition of the draft allowance on wool the conference recommended that this legislation be made effective from July 1.
The venue of the next conference was fixed at Perth. It is hoped that New Zealand will again be represented.
