MILITARY TRAINING
COMPULSION ADVOCATED SIR HAL COLEBATCH’S VIEWS LONDON. May 11. At Cardiff Sir Hal Colebatch (Agent-general for Western Australia), addressing the Overseas League branch, said that presentdav Britons were incapable of founding a new Empire, and drew a comparison between the Britons who settled in Australia and found life too hard and the gains too few with the Southern Europeans, who entered the country without official encouragement, and made good by hard work. His hearers sat in silence as Sir Hal Colebatch made sport of Britain’s so-called liberty. “ What is wanted in this country," he said, “ is a 10-year plan aimed at, building up the people’s mental, moral and physical standard.” He advocated compulsory military training, and added that Australia wanted a 98 per cent. British population, but they must be Britons of the right sort.
