TARZAN AGAIN
A NEW CHARACTERISATION In view of the growing popularity of Tarzan films it would be strange if Hollywood stopped producing these pictures; in fact, to the theatregoer, it would be strange if more attention was not paid to the production and acting qualifications of players in Tarzan films. The New Adventures of Tarzan,’ which will be shown at the St. James Theatre to-day, brings to the screen further exploits of this world-famous fiction character, brainchild of Edgar Rice Burroughs. This new Tarzan tale leads the audience into the wilds .of Guatemala, where Herman Bnx, famous American Olympic Games champion, performs Herculean feats. The story opens when Tarzan goes to the assistance of a friend on the s.s. Wingai, where he accidentally meets Major Martling, a world renowned archaeologist. Tafzan readily joins the expedition which is proceeding to the Guatemalan jungles in the hope of locating priceless Mayan gems. The crooked activities of a rival expedition which does everything possible to hinder Tarzan’s companions, makes for exciting entertainment. Against a mysterious and fascinating background of scenic grandeur, colourful fiestas, native music, and strange rites, Tarzan battles with the monster men in the city of the green goddess, rescues the heroine (Ula Holt) from a tribe of savage Indians, and fights to the death with, a ferocious Numidian lion. It is typical of Tarzan pictures, but further spice is added to this latest release which is, perhaps, the best Tarzan production yet released. An entertaining programme of short subjects fully maintains the standard set by the main attraction.
