BALCLUTHA Mayoral Election The majority of 228 gained by Mr j h Stevenson in the mayora, election was the largest recorded m a mayoral contest locally for many years. There were 1012 names on the roll, but only 738 voles were recorded. Owing to a misunderstanding, there was no oporlunily to deliver speeches after the result had been declared, but inter, at the Plunket Hall, the two candidates met in public, and Mi A. A Campbell heartily congratulated Mr Stevenson in winning so decisively what had been a clean contest from beginning to end. Mr Stevenson suitably acknowledged the sentiment expressed. The audience cheered both men, and afterwards gave a special cheer for the new Mayor.
