LABOUR CANDIDATES SITTING MEMBERS ENDORSED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 29. At a recent meeting of the National executive of the New Zealand Labour Party the following sitting members of Parliament were endorsed as the party’s candidates for the next election; — Mr C. A. Barrell, Hamilton. Mr G. H. Ormond Wilson. Rangitikei. Mr James Thorn, Thames Mr W. Lee Martin, Raglan. Mr C. H. Burnett, Tauranga. Mr W. Nash, Hutt. Members of the party are now being asked to choose the party’s candidates in the following electorates: — Riccarton, Wellington Suburbs, Pahiatua, Motueka and Central Otago. Selection ballots are now being taken NEW PLYMOUTH SEAT MR S. G. SMITH TO STAND AGAIN (Per United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Mar. 29. It is understood that Mr S. G. Smith, the sitting member has been selected by the local executive of the National Party to contest the New Plymouth seat. With the exception of one term, Mr Smith has represented the electorate since 1918. CANDIDATE FOR AWARUA Mr L. A. Neiderer, of Gorge road, has announced his candidature for the Awarua seat at the general election as an Independent. Mr Neiderer contested the Awarua seat at the last election as a Democrat candidate, and was opposed by Mr T. F. Doyle, M.L.C. (Labour) and Mr J Hargest (National) who won the seat. He is a member of the Southland County Council and has also been a member of the Southland Land Board. He was a member of the Southland Electric Power Board before it was taken over by the Government.
