FATAL COLLISION DEATH OF MAORI MOTOR CYCLIST (Per United Press Association) WHAKATANE, Mar. 29. John Moses Davis, a Maori, single, aged 27, died in hospital to-day as the result of severe injuries received in a collision between a car and his motor cycie on the Whakatane-Tauranga highway near Plkowai on Friday last. The car was driven by Mr Wilson, inspector of State housing at Tauranga. THROWN FROM HORSE BOY’S NECK BROKEN (Per United Press Association) ROTORUA. Mar. 29. When his horse took fright, throwing him heavily to the roadway, Abraham Haira, a 13-year-old schoolboy, of Horohoro, was killed instantly on the Atiarnuri road, about nine miles from Rotorua, late yesterday. The accident was witnessed by a passing motorist, who summoned the police and ambulance, but it was found that the boy’s neck had been broken. ACCIDENTAL DROWNING INQUEST ON YOUTH’S DEATH (Per United Press Association) HASTINGS. Mar. 29. A verdict that Carol Vernon, a labourer, aged 18, was drowned accidentally in the Tukituki River about 3.30 p.m. on Sunday was returned by the coroner (Mr G. Ebbett) at the inquest in Hastings to-day. “All I can say is that it was unfortunate for all those concerned, and particularly for those nearby,” said the coroner. WEAVING FATALITY INQUEST ON GIRL WORKER (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. Mar. 29. The inqest at Wellington on Marjorie Gregory, aged 19, who died following an accident with a loom in Petone Woollen Mills, was opened to-day. Evidence was given to the effect that the deceased, who had been weaving for two years and some months, but for a few weeks only on the particular type of loom on which the accident occurred. apparently followed a method contrary to the usual procedure in examining the cloth, and one against which she had been warned. The inquest was adjourned for the medical evidence. MAN FOUND HANGING (Per United Press Association) TIMARU, Mar. 29. Richard Hughes, a married man, aged about 64, was found hanging in an outbuilding at his residence at Tlmaru at 9.30 this morning. INJURY TO EYE i Robert Pratt, a married man, who resides at 100 Albany street, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital at 5.15 p.m. yesterday suffering from an injury to the eye. He was struck with a chip of wood from a saw while working for Messrs Wood and McCormack, builders. The accident occurred on Friday last.
