SEARCH FOR OIL

COMPANIES ANXIOUS TO START KEEN INTEREST EVIDENT (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Mar. 29. Since the passing of the Petroleum Act recently keen interest has been shown by very large companies who are anxious to prospect for oil in the Dominion on an extensive scale, provided that suitable licences can be arranged, said the Minister of Mines (Mr P. C. Webb) in an interview to-day. Apart from that statement, the Minister said he preferred to make little comment on the question at the moment. “I will be very surprised, however, if we do not embark upon the most progressive boring campaign in the history of the Dominion,” Mr Webb added. “I am assured that the most modern drilling plants will be used, guided by the most expert companies and men engaged in the oil industry.” The Minister added that the question of granting licences would be reviewed after the end of the present month.
