URGENT REPRESENTATIONS

THE FRUIT EXPORT TRADE SHORTAGE OF SHIPPING SPACE 1 1$ v (Per United Press Association) NELSON, Mar.' 4. Owing to the serious shortage of space for the shipment of fruit overseas the Nelson Fruit Advisory Committee passed the following resolu* tion, a copy of which has been sent to the Overseas Shipowners' Allotment Committee, Wellington:— " This committee, representing the Nelson provonce, has heard from the Fruit Board with alarm that your committee has failed to provide space for fruit to the extent .of 200,000 cases available for shipment spread over the next three weeks, This means ruin for many growers, and this committee urges the Shipping Committee to provide space according td the contract." The Advisory Committee has also sent a telegram to the Prime Minister (Mr Savage), the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash), and the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Lee Martin) urgently requesting that immediate steps be taken to secure* space, as it is impossible to delay harvesting, and cool storage space is not available.
