THE COMPLAINING FARMER

TO THE EDITOR Sr— Your correspondent " Labour for Ever" is probably one of the fortunates who has benefited by the 40hour week, and has too much time on his hands with nothing to do, and. as the old proverb says, " The Devil finds work for idle hands." So our friend uses his time in criticising the farmer, whereas he could be usefully employed in the Central trucking the thousands of sheep that are on the verge of starvation on account of the drv weather. The farmer does not exploit but is exploited by such persons as your correspondent when he comes to town Anyway, why is he not entitled to buy a car if he has the means? If all the farmers in New Zealand kept their buggies and gave up their cars, how would the city car salesmen and oil companies get on? I know of one car salesman whose living is dependent on country orders. There would be no flash flat or car for him and no lipslick and peroxide for his wife if all farmers kept to the old conveyances And if the farmer is away on a trip you will find his family looking after his interests. The farmer is a family man and does not shirk his responsibilities. His wife has home interests is not engaged in nursing cats and and poodles or in keeping sinsrle girls out of work.—l am. etc.. Enocs.
