Magistrate’s Court An accident in Shearman street was the subject of civil proceedings in the Magistrate’s Court. George William Dixon, a plumber, of Waimate. claimed £SO general damages and £22 7s 8d special damages from William Fraser Johnston, a farmer, of Glenavy, consequent on a collision between a car driven by the defendant and the cycle ridden by the plaintiff. Judgment was given for the amounts paid into court. Delivering a reserve judgment in the case in which Victor Samuel Eathorne claimed £ll6 14s in general and special damages as the result of a collision between a motor cycle and a car at the intersection of Queen street and High street, the magistrate said that the defendant was guilty of negligence in failing to observe the off-side rule and in not keeping a proper look-out. The plaintiff, however, had shown contributory negligence and must be nonsuited. Court costs (12s 6d) and solicitor’s fee (£5 16s) were allowed the defendant.
