The Tokio correspondent of The Times says Cabinet has approved recognition of General Franco, and an announcement will be made tomorrow. BRITISH VESSEL RELEASED MALTA, Nov. 30. The African Mariner has been released. There was nothing in the cargo infringing the Munitions to Spain Act. ‘ The Admiralty announced that the destroyer Greyhound had brought the London steamer African Mariner from the Eastern Mediterranean to Malta to be searched under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1936, prohibiting British ships carrying munitions to Spain. The vessel was taken over by the port authorities on arrival. Solicitors for the owners of the Boccaccio intimated that the vessel carried no bombs or explosives, and only general cargo. None of their steamers trade to Spanish ports. DEMONSTRATION IN SYDNEY SYDNEY, Dec. 1. (Received Dec. 1, at 11.30 p.m.) A small demonstration by women dressed in black was made outside the Italian Consulate in Sydney at lunch time to-day. They carried a placard, “We mourn for Spanish children killed by Fascist bombs.” The police, who were quickly on the scene, seized typed statements expressing horror at Italian intervention and air atrocities in Spain, and dispersed the crowd.
