FAR EAST RELIEF FUND
GOOD RESPONSE TO APPEAL; The Mayor (the Rev. E. T. Cox) states that the contributions to the Far East Relief Fund are now approaching £7OO and that if the rate of progress made during the past two weeks was continued the £ 1000 aimed at would be reached by the end of the week, when it had been decided to cease the appeal. The hope that the rest of Otago would provide a further £SOO showed little signs at present of being realised, the most encouraging response being from Roxburgh, which had been asked to attempt £lO. Yesterday morning, Mr F. A. Laloli, the Mayor of Roxburgh, forwarded a cheque for £ls 11s 6d, the result of the local appeal. The Mayor said that if other local bodies thoughout the province would make a personal appeal, he was sure good would result.
