THE PORTOBELLO AQUARIUM
TO THE EDITOR ,
Sir,—ln Wednesday’s issue of this paper I read the report of the Marine Department. How pleased I was, and doubtless others will be, that a grant had been made to the aquarium at Portobello. It would have been a shame to have closed this marine wonderland, for such it is. What a wonderful collection of specimens is there! The mere glance that many give <o this place reveals practically nothing; one has to study closely the movements of these wonderful little creatures. What a. pity this biological station could not be enlarged and a greater work carried on! Perhaps someone else may write further on this subject. All I wish to do is to urge people to take a more definite interest in this place of wonder. God has placed many beautiful things in His world, but how few have eyes to see and hearts to appreciate!—l am,
etc., Beche-de-mer. Oamaru, November 29.
