THE ROWING ASSOCIATION’S APPEAL

TO THE EDITOR

Sir—l desire to draw the attention of all rowing enthusiasts and others to the appeal appearing in your paper for financial assistance in connection with the crew to represent New Zealand at the Empire Games, which are to be held in Sydney early next year My association’s quota is £SO, and we are very desirous of raising this amount, in view of the fact that we have two members in the eight-oar crew, viz., L. Pithie, of the Port Chalmers Club, and C. Johnston, of the Otago Club. Apart from this appeal, Otago will be represented in the Interprovincial Eight-oar Championship, to be rowed at Wanganui at Easter, and it will be necessary to raise funds in view of this. Active members of the various clubs are contributing towards both appeals, and individual clubs are arranging dances to assist also. There is no necessity to extol the performances of our crews in the past, except to say that out of ten races. Otago has secured six firsts, three seconds and one unplaced, but it has cost £765 to compete in the 10 races, less £159 received in prize money. On behalf of mv association, I commend the appeal to all rowing enthusiasts and will greatly appreciate any assistance that can be given Donations are being received by the editor of this paper, or, if more convenient, can be accepted by myself.—l am, etc.. S. G. Styche, President. O.R.A. Dunedin. December 1. [We have received £1 Is from Mr Styche and £1 from “Well-wisher” in response to this appeal.—Ed., O.D.T.]
