CRIMES IN AMERICA
KINEMA PLAYERS PERTURBED DEATH OF MR MILLER NEW YORK, Nov. 16. Three blood transfusions proved futile. The police said Mr Miller died without providing a single clue to the identity of the slayer. Ironically, it was a film named “A Slight Case of Murder,” in which Mr Miller was scheduled to participate today. The recent crimes are causing great fear among kinema players. The officials claim to have uncovered a plot to bomb the home of such Jewish film notables as Eddie Cantor and Louis Mayer. The wildest rumours are circulated regarding unrevealed cases of blackmail and extortion. It is even reported that several studios enlisted the aid of the underworld to provide strike-breakers recently, after which they imported gunmen.
A gunman, in the early morning, entered the apartment of Mr Hymie Miller, aged 31, a movie actor and cafe owner, and fired four shots, blowing off Mr Miller’s nose and wounding him in the neck, hand and thigh. Mr Miller was unable to describe the gunman. He heard a noise and woke up. A dim figure in the darkness immediately opened fire. Mr Miller was scheduled to appear in a scene in the film “ Robin Hood.”
